CULTURALLY COMPETENT HEALTHCARE
Meeting the challenges can improve outcomes and enrich patient care
Abstract: One can't help but notice the growing diversity in our population. In most respects, it is something to celebrate and embrace. After all, our country was founded as a haven for all, a fount of opportunity, the vast melting pot we all learned about in our earliest history lessons. But this broadening and mixing of cultures also challenges us as a society. For physicians, cultural diversity immediately and poignantly tests our ability to truly care for patients--to demonstrate that we are not only clinically proficient but also culturally competent.
